Content hosting

There are people who write texts on the topic of programming in LJ. There are people who do similar on Habré. It is possible to collect everything in one RSS feed, but such a thing is individual, it is not at all the same as a collective feed of the Habr’s main page. The solution could be “content hosting,” when different services remain different, but access the same shared database. In other words, a service can use not only its own, but also other people's content. For example, in the Habr’s feed, thematic articles from LJ would be used (similarly, the habraposts of users would end up in live friend feeds).

Of course, for services, this is a double-edged sword. Now separate, “own” content for each service means competition between services in the gradual formation of a unique, own community of users. Who has a larger and better community is the winner (from a common point of view, quality is a rather “left” parameter here, most likely the audience’s quantity and solvency). At the same time, the service should be very tense on promotion, and the growth process all the same cannot be very fast (except when there is some unreached audience with a high need for communication. But even then, initial growth will be fast). In the proposed version of the general content, there will be fewer problems with the growth of the audience and the content mass, however, competition is moving into a narrower area,

But for users, in any way, a gain will turn out - firstly, an increase in the volume of the target audience for writing authors, and secondly, an increase in the relevance of the information received for user readers.

PS Nobody will say what the castle means before the name of the post?
