Special Purpose Meeting

    image

The next meeting began in another interesting place - this time in the Predator shooting complex on the October Field.

It is logical to assume that the venue is timed to the recent day of the defender, so that everything converges. The gloomy atmosphere was “saved” by many lanterns with artificial fire - thanks to them it was possible to consider all kinds of attributes of the room. Headphones, stands with knives and guns, some figurines and busts. Unusual!

As always, representatives of the most-most IT publications gathered.

The event was entirely devoted to Intel's development in the field of network communications. Unfortunately, almost all of the information was closed (not for disclosure and partially not even for photos), so there will be a minimum of specifics - thank you for your understanding.

Let me see, ”Woland held out his hand, palm up.
“Unfortunately, I cannot do this,” the master answered, “because I burned it in the stove.”
“I'm sorry, I won’t believe it,” Woland answered, “this cannot be.” Manuscripts do not burn.
    - He turned to the Behemoth and said: - Come on, Behemoth, give me a novel.
The cat instantly jumped out of the chair, and everyone saw that he was sitting on a thick bundle of manuscripts.
The upper specimen cat bowed to Woland.

It has already become a tradition that the story begins with Alexei Rogachkov , a specialist at Intel. With a pinch of healthy humor, with colorful slides, he first spoke about the global pace of WiMAX development. Amazingly, in 2009, network coverage grew from 20 to 105 million people, with the United States (35 million), Russia (25 million) and Japan the main components of this figure. It is expected that by the end of 2010 these figures will double, and several other large countries will enter the game along the way.

    image

By the way, it is no secret that the same standards in different countries work in different conditions. Here, for example, is what a world map looks like, painted in the colors of the working frequency ranges:

    image

In general, there should definitely be a wimax. Later, Dmitry Laryushin came out to confirm this.Intel's chief wireless technology expert. He spoke a few words about the new Kilmer Peak WiMAX chip, about its vague past and bright near future. So far, this is the only chip (which is built into various mobile devices such as laptops) that can operate in three bands: 2.3, 2.5 and 3.5 GHz. Well, in conclusion, the light was shed on a very secret chip for the Moorestown platform, codenamed Evans Peak . A chip the size of a coin will have a whole set of scout - Wi-Fi (a / b / g / n), WiMAX, BT and GPS!

    image

Then Alexey appeared again on the improvised stage - the story was about the wonderful Intel My WiFi technology .

    image

Roughly speaking, this technology is designed to facilitate the connection of devices to a WiFi network. Right in the hall, Alexei Rogachkov took a camera with wireless functionality, took a picture and after pressing only a couple of buttons, a photo from the laptop was already shown through the projector.

    image

    image

Accordingly, the function is primarily intended to simplify the creation of a network, all kinds of synchronization, printers and content transfer. All this is created at the software level and, in principle, is already available for testing. And yes, there are rumors that there will be a separate hardware button on laptops for this feature.

Well, of course, it could not do without the sensational Intel Wireless Display technology, which was introduced to the world on January 7, 2010 at CES2010. There was no demonstration of the function itself, but the roadmap for 2010 was shown :) At the moment there are several laptops (from Dell, Sony and Toshiba) that can boast of displaying pictures on a TV without any wires - they have a module with a firmware version installed 1.0. So far, this technology is capable of transmitting HD-content with a resolution of 1280x720p, although from the specifications it was obvious that initially the technology was sharpened for several other tasks.

    image

In version 1.1 of the software, they promise a resolution of 1366x768, and then more - (moreover, it will be possible to update yourself yourself). But this is about the future - first you need to wait for the dawn of Wi-Fi N in Russia. Well, if you really can’t wait, you can try your luck in finding a kit from NETGEAR - they are the first and only ones who make equipment for the new technology.

And then there was the most interesting ...)

As I said, the meeting was held in the Predator rifle complex. So it would be strange if they didn’t let them shoot) The arsenal was as follows - 4 carbines (Vepr-308, Los-7, Saiga MK-03 and OP SKS) and 3 pistols (IZH-71, SKSK and Viking).

    image

Under the scrutiny of instructors (no less severe than Chuck Norris), each guest was given a certain ("set-off") number of rounds and a summary sheet where the results were entered.

    image

Earphones this evening were in great demand - the peak of "sales" came after the first shot from a carbine :) It is a pity that there was practically no lighting everywhere, and it was impossible to take pictures with a flash - so that really grew.

I have absolutely nothing to brag about. From carbines shot from a distance of 40 meters - at such a distance from the target in the front sight, I saw only the silhouette of the target. Accordingly, “good” was shot only through optics - 38 points out of 40 on Vepré-308.

    image

    image

With pistol shooting a little better, because the distance was, like, 25 meters. 18 out of 20 on the PKSK and 34 out of 40 on the Viking. The last machine was especially liked.

    image

    image

Without offset, you could shoot at moving targets - there were any scenes to choose from, because image was displayed by projectors. Counter Strike is resting.

    image

    image

It was somewhat amusing to watch this picture - when a bunch of geeks literally turned into children, lining up to play “war games”) Girls were allowed out of turn - surprisingly, but at some lines they were shooting no worse than some guys.

    image

    Unusual sight!

When the powder in the flasks was over, gifts were handed over to everyone else, and everyone else was invited to get acquainted with the latest netbooks - from ASUS, Acer and Toshiba. Naturally, the new Atom new network modules, new surfaces (cheers, finally matte!). The other day I will try to review one of the new products.

    image

It is worth paying tribute to Intel for the next unforgettable meeting - I do not know how, but they know how to conduct memorable events. It is good when everyone is treated responsibly and with a soul.
