LCD LG LF2510 or "why do I need a DVD now?"

Want a budget TV and media player in one device? It's about the LCD TV LG 42LF2510 I was

puzzled by the purchase of a large TV. I searched for a long time, I chose: where is cheaper, which is better. The main characteristics were support for FullHD, contrast of at least 50,000: 1, USB as a nice addition, Ethernet as a novelty in TVs. Such novelty was found only in Sony TVs. USB could be found more often than Ethernet. After careful selection, the Sony Bravia KDL-40V5610 was selected. For a number of financial reasons, we decided to take something more budget-friendly.
Suddenly I went into MVideo and my eyes fell on the inexpensive LG model. I am not very trusting about this brand, but soon I was struck by the capabilities of this TV. Unfortunately, as it turned out, there is USB in this TV, but it is a service one. What was my surprise when I started reading reviews on it: it turns out that this TV can play video files, and quite a lot of formats. And most importantly MKV files :))

Thus, this particular model was purchased ... After the purchase, LG 42LF2510 was puzzled by the inclusion of the option to play files from a USB flash drive, which was a huge plus of this device and without this ability it would not be used at 100% for watching movies, because my DVD (Pioneer AV610) cannot read MKV.
A couple of resources were investigated: the familiar ixbt.com and not all the familiar foreign avforums.com. Where I found answers for activating playback via USB.

In order to find out the current firmware ->
    1. We go to the Menu by pressing the same button on the remote control (remote control).
    2. Select Options (but do not click)
    3. Press the FAV button (bottom right on the remote) 7 times
    4. We are in flashing mode. The first line is your version of the firmware.

Attention if the version is lower than 3.4 then you can downgrade to firmware 3.15. Call the engineering menu by holding the OK key on the remote control and on the TV. (or MENU in later versions). If version 3.47 or 3.48, then when you downgrade your TV will turn into a brick.

    And so the first option:
You need to downgrade to 3.15, activate USB, upgrade to your own firmware or more recent.

The second option: the service menu can be called by sending a certain code to the receiver. Ways to do this: service console
with emulation software for Symbian and WinMobile

According to the first option, there is a lot of information on the ixbt Russian-language forum, and there is very little information about activation with a diode (add the link to the FAQ at the end). I decided precisely on this option, because I was confused by some risks during flashing.

As a result, the following was done to activate USB:
    1. One LED was taken from the rear bicycle light (as needed, it was soldered back without consequences).
    2. A wire from old headphones with a 3.5mm jack jack.
    3. The LED is soldered so that it burns (observing polarity)
    4. On iphone special was reproduced. file.
The instructions say that you need to play cyclically changing the volume. I preferred to change not the volume but the distance to the receiver on the TV.

2-5 seconds and the TV asks for a password. Press "0000" on the remote control. We enter the service menu.
-> change TWO settings - DivX - HD (or SD) and enable JPEG (set 1).
Here “EMF (Jpeg, MP3)” set the value to “1” (the keys “right” and “left”)
DIVX set the value “HD” (the keys “right” and “left”)
Do not change anything else. You may damage the TV and lose the warranty on it.

Voila. I tried immediately MKV. Works!!! Without brake. DVD stands next to off ... why now?)
