GPU Global Illumination

Well, ladies and gentlemen, fans of V-Ray / Mental Ray ... CryTek decided to make fun ... If earlier you needed one hour or a day with a technology like "global illumination" (light reflection), now it can appear on your screens ... at a speed 120 fps! What we saw only on pre-rendered things, levels, games with baked lighting from Illiminate Labs (Mirror's Edge) will now be real-time:

CryEngine 3 - Global Illumination with Light Propagation Volumes

(Watch this, of course, in HQ and Full Screen)

At about 1:00, the Manhattan Apartment will begin, where the change in illumination in real time and the dynamic Global Illumination are shown.

Of course, so far this has only been done for CryEngine 3, but the point is that modern boards allow such calculations to be done in real time, which means that soon you can forget about the days spent on rendering one frame.

And from them - Crytek never ceases to impress - massive lighting at 120 fps.

However, a little digging deep into the Internet shows that in fact the V-Ray developers are not sleeping and are already presenting their GPU version, which can already do rough sketches at 3 fps and speeds up the process at 20x!

    The future is almost here.

In the comments, kopch also suggested that the future Mental Ray will include GPU-accelerated iray , which also looks pretty impressive: UPDATE 2. The user xiWera suggested an even more interesting Lightsmark project , which gives 700 fps! You can find it on realtimeradiosity.com , which collects a link to all similar projects:
