Apple, Nokia and others switch to microUSB
The European Commission has announced that major mobile device manufacturers have agreed on a universal charger.
Ten companies, including Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, NEC, LG, RIM, Qualcomm, Samsung, Texas Instruments and Apple, have signed an agreement. According to it, smartphones and communicators will be equipped with a microUSB connector. This solution is aimed both at the environment (annually hundreds of thousands of accessories are thrown away), and at the convenience of users themselves (there is no need to keep several chargers in the house).

Starting next year, there will be more and more microUSB phones on the market. There will be no charger in their boxes - you will have to buy it separately. The European Commission believes that after 3-4 years all smartphones and communicators will support standardized chargers.

Apple’s involvement in this initiative raises many questions. Over the years, the company has launched mobile devices with the proprietary dock connector. Perhaps the vendor plans to equip the iPhone with an adapter for microUSB?
