Niches, my friends, only niches!
Oddly enough, this topic will not be about the architectural delights of modern art designers :) I'm going to share with you my boiling thoughts about marketing social networks or communities .
A little background. I have friends who are going to create a website - a social network for party people: information about clubs, DJs, events, etc. with a natural modern webdvanol bias. Their trick is a lot of information, the ability to communicate with DJs and other relevant persons.
So, closer to the body. These people do not understand at all how stupid their idea is. Complete rotten meat. Why?
First, you need to understand the basics of the functioning of social networks, communities. If there is a certain group of people interested in one thing or having the same common characteristics, subject to their own interest (this is generally a separate topic for discussion), you can organize them into a specific community. For example, the community of the same party-goers on Afishu.ru or Respect.ru (I’m not quite in the subject, so sorry for some inaccuracies, I’m sure there are still some thematic communities). So, at the moment, these communities are fully formed and are functioning reasonably well (at least quite lively). That is why my startup friends need to count not on “active young people aged 18-25 with Internet access,” but on poachedfrom other communities, a certain audience (well, who will run away from their place for additional features?) Moreover, it is then that there is an understanding of the huge risks : all your features that (possibly) will allow you to drag a part of the audience can quickly be picked up by the market giants, leaving you overboard.
That is why it is important for beginners, in my opinion, to understand that there are only two possibilities : either to find previously unexisting or unknown properties and signs by which you can create a community (which is quite difficult), or use niche strategies and try to pull - a very narrow circle of people from an existing community (which is even more difficult in some places, but do not forget about a higher level of loyalty!).
Well, actually, why ? Why did I write about this? I hope for a certain discussion, take into account the high probability that I'm wrong, and generally look forward to any opinion or feedback, for example, about whether I correctly moved the topic to this blog? :)
Thank you for your attention :)
UPD A huge request: if you know about a community of people interested in dance events , please drop off the link. Thanks )
