The new version of the Nvidia Ion platform will appear at the end of the year
Nvidia is developing the second generation of the Ion platform, Fudzilla reports citing a statement from Nvidia representatives. This platform will be introduced in the fourth quarter of 2009.
The Nvidia Ion 2 platform will support multiple processors. Among them are Intel chips of the Atom, Celeron, Pentium, and Core 2 families. Also, computers based on Ion 2 will be able to work with Via Nano processors.
The Ion platform was introduced by Nvidia at the end of 2008. It is specifically designed for ultra-low-cost mobile and desktop computers. The first PCs based on Ion will appear this summer. They will cost from $ 299.
The main feature of the Nvidia Ion platform is the integrated GeForce 9400M video system, which is several times faster than the integrated Intel graphics. Computers based on Ion will allow you to work with HD-video with a resolution of 1080p.
Intel has criticized the Nvidia Ion platform. She believes Ion is just the new name for existing Nvidia products. According to Intel, the power consumption of this platform will be quite high, even though it is designed to work with an energy-efficient Intel Atom processor.
