IPhone App Design: Icon for LiveJournal.app

The visual design of the iPhone apps is new and quite creative, despite the stringent standards set by Apple. I bring to your attention a short story about how we designed the client for LJ. LiveJournal.app is a free LiveJournal client for the Apple iPhone that allows you to write to your journal, as well as send and receive private messages. This wonderful product is being developed by CosySoftware . We were instructed to draw the main icon and screensaver based on the LiveJournal corporate identity.

I’m just now faced with a problem - corporate people steamed me and force me to change the icon + screen saver, so that it would more correspond to the LiveJournal brand. If you give it to them, then I will get a white badge with a logo, which I don’t feel like horror about.

It turned out that drawing simple things is a rather difficult task. It would seem easier to take a pencil from the Livejournal style and redraw it for the iPhone. But the application already had a very pretty style, and we needed to do better.

We started from the loading screen:

Then, based on the screen saver, we drew an application icon that looks very harmonious surrounded by “native” iPhone icons:

But the main icon is “in action”. She kind of tells us: “Click on me, cat! Well, click! ”

Every lucky owner of an iPhone can install LiveJournal.app for free if he visits the page of this product in iTunes.
