Microsoft Tests Windows Online Diagnostics

Microsoft has begun beta testing a service that will allow you to run Sysinternals diagnostics directly through a browser. This kit includes more than 70 utilities, including the Process Explorer program for studying the list of processes running on the computer (this is an advanced version of the standard Task Manager), as well as Processor Monitor and RootKitRevealer for detecting rootkits. Previously, these programs had to be searched on the Internet and specially downloaded, because they were not included in the standard Windows package.

Yesterday, Microsoft specialists officially announced the launch of beta testing of the site Sysinternals Live. There, the whole set of programs is now laid out. Some browsers (like Firefox) cannot launch them instantly, but they must first save the file. At the same time, Internet Explorer immediately launches the file for execution. You can call any program directly from the address bar with the command

    \\ live.sysinternals.com \ tools \ toolname

where “toolname” corresponds to the name of the program.

I must say that the Sysinternals developer, Winternals Software, was acquired in mid-2006, and Mark Russinovich, the co-founder of the company, has since been working at Microsoft.
