Mozilla Labs is played with a prism

Mozilla Labs announced the start of a series of experiments to integrate web applications into a familiar desktop. The goal of the initiative is to research and search for usability models that may be in demand in this area. The announcement on the Mozilla Labs Blog emphasizes that "unlike Adobe AIR and Microsoft Silverlight, we are not trying to build a closed platform to replace the web." WebRunner , a simple XULRunner based browser, was transferred to the Mozilla repository and renamed to Prism

as the basis for the first experiment . So far, the technology is very simple: with it, you can add shortcuts to the required web application to your desktop or menu.

When you click on the shortcut in the browser with the settings specified when the shortcut was added, this application will be launched.

At the moment, gizmo is available only for the win platform, but linux with mac also promise. Those interested can download and play.

So far the technology is extremely simple, but according to the developers, at the moment they are working on implementing deeper integration with the user's computer, for example, things such as providing access to local data, working with 3d, etc. It's nice that our developers also take part in the work:

The project lead for Prism is Mark Finkle and contributors include Cesar Oliveira, Wladimir Palant, Sylvain Pasche, Alex Faaborg, and Myk Melez.
