Is Gmail convenient?

Most of my friends have recently moved to Gmail. For a long time I could not understand whether this is a fashion or really so much more convenient than mail.ru and others. The argument that it was just a fashion was the fact that Gmail couldn’t be brought in if nobody invited you there, but recently it became possible ...

And now, most recently I myself had to get into one collective mailbox on Gmail (which is used by a group of comrades as a file repository and a place for public messages). My surprise and indignation knew no bounds.

    Several things killed at once:

in the “standard with chat” viewing mode, which opens by default, it is impossible to open the message in a new tab.
in the interface for viewing a single letter there is no familiar header with subject fields, from whom, to whom and so on. Instead, there is a meaningful inscription "to whom: to me." The situation for me, apparently, is aggravated by the fact that I browse the web without pictures, and in this form the letter is simply unreadable.
if the letter is the answer, and God forbid, the answer is not the first, then some dialogue appears on top of the usual heading. If the box is not yours and you see this letter for the first time, then at least kill, it is unclear what anyone told or wrote to whom.
when you click on the attached file with the right button (on the shortcut itself or on the “Download” link) and selecting “Save Link As” in the Mozilla menu, not a file is saved, but some html-document.

Well, the “tip” at the bottom of the screen completely killed, which prompted me to write this topic:

You can access Gmail from your mobile phone by opening the mail.google.com page in your phone’s browser.

And why is it not said how to access Gmail from a personal computer?

So still, is Gmail convenient and I just don’t understand anything?
