Linkedin application is no longer available for download on the territory of the Russian Federation
Russian users have lost the opportunity to download the application of the professional social network Linkedin through the appStore or Google Play, reports the New York Times . The reason for this was the decision of the court, which Linkedin was blocked in the territory of the Russian Federation due to violation of the law on "personal data".
Recall, November 17, 2016 Roskomnadzor, guided by a court decision, introduced the social network Linkedin to the list of prohibited sites . It should be noted that a week before the blocking, on November 10, lawyers from Liunkedin filed an appeal to the Moscow City Court, which, however, was rejected. At the same time, representatives of the social network say that the trial was conducted with violations.
At a request from the New York Times, Appleās representative partially confirmed the removal of the Linkedin application from the AppStore, saying that the company always seeks to comply with the laws of the countries in which it operates. No official comments from Google could not be obtained.
The initiator of the proceedings against Linkedin was Roskomnadzor itself, who saw in the actions of the social network violations of the law on "personal data". At the same time, the company has never officially worked in the Russian Federation and does not have a representative office in the country, which, however, did not prevent the process to start against Linkedin Corporation.
According to the company's lawyers, the trial took place in an extremely short time, and all requests from representatives of the social network to change the defendant in the case (the lawsuit was directed against Linkedin Corporation, which works only in the United States, another company is responsible for the actions of the resource in Europe) due to the difficulty of translating documentation, were ignored. As a result, the company's lawyers could not prepare for either the hearing itself or the appeal because of the unwillingness of the authorities to meet. At the same time, the fact that users independently transferred their personal data for processing was ignored, and part of the information involved in the case, such as information about IP addresses or cookies, is generally technical, not personal data.
