"Yandex" will correct the situation with a sharp change of coordinates in their geoservices when located near the Kremlin
The company "Yandex" said that they will correct the situation with teleportation to airports during the use of their geolocation service and maps when the user is near the Kremlin, Vedomosti reports . About this edition told the head of geoservices "Yandex" Roman Chernin. With a sharp change of coordinates for a considerable distance, the user of the Yandex.Maps and Navigator services will be forced to return to the “jump” point.
Now users of any geoservices, being near the Kremlin, can arbitrarily "teleport" to Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports. Recently, the movement of coordinates to the city of Zhukovsky in the Moscow region has been noted.
The first complaints of users began to appear this summer. It was then that the GPS signal near the Kremlin became jammed and "teleport" users to one of the airports. After leaving the zone of suppression, the correct display of the location was restored.
This feature led to problems with various devices and services using GPS. Signal jamming near the Kremlin led to a significant increase in the cost of travel for passengers of those taxi services, where the calculation is made by tracking the location of the car with the calculation of the duration of the route. Software that was not ready for such “anomalies” did not find anything suspicious that the car instantly traveled dozens of kilometers.
The reason for the jamming of the GPS signal was the equipment of the Ministry of Defense for radar combat, which is used in the protection of important state facilities, which, of course, is the Kremlin.
At the same time, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which includes Russia, orders governments to combat the distortion of GPS and Glonass signals, although this is exactly what is observed in the center of Moscow. At the same time, the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media notes that the prescription of the ITU is a recommendation.
