Slack team announced the beginning of a partnership with Google Cloud
The developers of the corporate messenger Slack , the main audience of which are teams of remote employees, announced the start of a partnership with Google. The corresponding entry was posted on the Slack official blog on Medium.
The main reason for starting work with Google, the Slack team, calls the popularity of the giant's services among its own audience.
“We are working with Google to provide our customers with a deeper integration of services. It turns out that many of you like to use both Slack and Google services at the same time — so much so that millions of Google Drive files are shared with Slack every month. In the future, you will have the opportunity to do more with our products. ”
The first thing that the developers say is the creation by Google of a special bot for Slack.
“Tables, presentations, comments and requests for access can sometimes languish in the form of e-mail notifications. Now they will come to where you work - in Slack, using the Google Drive bot, ”the blog says.
In addition, a bot from Google will check if all members of the channel where the link to the Google Drive file was dropped have the appropriate access rights to view it. If someone does not have them, the author will be asked to change the access policy.
The developers promise a system for automatically backing up files hosted on Slack channels on Google Team Drive. It can also be used as the main synchronized file storage.
The most important update for the teams working in Slack and Google Docs will be the ability to preview the document directly from the messenger, without switching to the browser.
All the features described will be available in the first half of 2017. According to the developers of Slack, this is only the first wave of integration innovations that users expect.
Slack - corporate instant messenger with the ability to create channels, video conferencing and direct correspondence. It is popular among teams of remote employees due to its simplicity, the possibility of flexible adjustment of the notification policy and other functions. It has a full-fledged desktop application, a mobile application and a web version for those who want to work directly from the browser.
The date of launch of the service is August 2013. By 2015, the daily audience of the service was estimated at one million unique users. It is distributed according to the Freemium model. Available as a free site, with a limit on the number of participants and the size of the stored message history (no more than 10,000), and for a fee.
