The first shots of the film adaptation of the cult cyberpunk anime "Ghost in the Shell" caused an ambiguous reaction of fans

For cyberpunk and anime fans, there are two news stories and, as usual, one is good and the other is bad.

The good news: the work on the adaptation of the cult cyberpunk anime is in full swing and the film will be. The fact that Hollywood is engaged in the adaptation, perhaps, will allow you to enjoy the wonderful special effects and the overall quality of the picture, since the cyberpunk-setting “Ghost in the Shell” requires a very solid budget.

The bad news is that the person who was far from the anime subculture was apparently engaged in the casting of actors, because Scarlett Johansson, who, in the modest opinion of the fans, is not at all like the Asian, is in the lead.

The problem of the lack of similarity between Johansson and her character from the anime is actively discussed on social networks, in particular, on Twitter:

In Hollywood, the trend of “whitening” Asian characters in a potentially box-office movie has long been overdue. The main reason is that among the “racial minorities”, that is, non-white actors, there are no “stars” capable of attracting a wide audience to the film. Inviting Johansson to the main role, the film’s producers are planning to draw attention to it, since for many it is known for its recent roles in the Marvel comic book and the film “Lucy”.

In turn, the fans of “Ghost in the Shell” believe that with the same success, the famous Asian could have been chosen for the main role:

Against the final approval of Scarlett Johansson for the role of Major Kusanagi, they even created a petition that has already collected more than 65 thousand votes.

In any case, whoever plays the main character, there is a chance that we will get high-quality cyberpunk tape, which are so few.
