Dell 6000 or hello from 2005

I have such a story, for some time I needed almost any laptop as a typewriter and some kind of multimedia. An interesting and hitherto unseen unit Dell Inspiron 6000 was found on one of the Belarusian Internet flea markets.

This marvelous device cost me 25 US dollars at the rate. For the money I bought:

  • dull by modern standards (or hooked?) monitor 1280x800 from Samsung;
  • 80GB hard drive from Hitachi 5400 rpm;
  • 1.73 GHz processor (Pentium M740 mobile);
  • as many as 1.5 Giga operatives;
  • and as a bonus, writing only a CD but a whole DVD-rom, dial-up modem, network card, wi-fi, TV-out and a whole bunch of everything else, including a rather shrunken built-in stereo system.

First of all, I took down the crookedly rolled “seven” and put the other two OSs for the test. These were the familiar XP and Linux Mint. They did not stay with me for long. Linux for some reason began to demand the password endlessly, accepted it and demanded again. As for XP SP3, it did not allow to watch many videos on the Internet and rather hard braked.

Then I installed the assembly of Windows 7 Thin PC. Of course, there were problems with the drivers that were written for "expi", but something became self-explanatory, and the rest was in compatibility mode. In general, one way or another, “firewood” got under all the devices.

The result is a rather interesting machine with features. You can work with the office, listen to music (though through external speakers, because the built-in ones are killed), multimedia control is carried out through the buttons on the front panel, even with the lid closed, you can even play (Torchlight is completely playable).

To work with images of the SLR camera, Photoshop CS5 was installed. I can’t say that it is very comfortable to work in it, but it’s enough for my needs.

Downloaded video from the Internet in a half gigabyte video card in the player Daum Player Mini pulls without brakes.

In general, a successful investment of $ 25
