Novelties of 2015: "flashlight" with the Internet and flagships in gold

While the whole of Russia was immersed in the rage of the New Year holidays, the IT world was simply teeming with the premieres of new gadgets and technologies. We did not stand aside and immediately presented several, so to speak, diametrically opposed devices.

    Nokia 215

As you may know, under the terms of the deal, Microsoft acquired the right to use the Nokia brand for mobile devices after the acquisition of Nokia Devices & Services. And if Lumia smartphones got the name of their parent company not so long ago, entry-level phones come out (and will come out) under the name Nokia. Therefore, it is not surprising that the new model with the digital designation 215 came out under this brand.

Nokia 215 is the most affordable phone from Microsoft with the ability to connect to the Internet and pre-installed social services. This is the company's own view on the problem of accessibility to the global network, especially in developing countries: according to Internet World Stats, in 2014, 60% of the world's population still did not have access to the Internet.

The novelty is intended primarily for those who need an entry-level mobile device, not only for communication, but also for connecting to the Internet and using various services and social networks.

The device runs on the Series 30+ platform with a number of pre-installed applications (you can’t install new ones or delete existing ones), including Opera Mini browser, Bing search service, Twitter, Facebook and Facebook Messenger clients. This gives us hope that, thanks to the advent of an affordable package solution in the form of Nokia 215, many people in the world will have a good and affordable opportunity to discover the network and popular services.

The phone works only in networks of the 2nd generation, which is enough to access all of the above services. Other technical characteristics include a 2.4-inch color display with a resolution of 320 × 240 pixels, a 0.3 megapixel main camera, an MP3 player, an FM radio and, of course, a flashlight. The 1100 mAh battery provides up to 20 hours of talk time or 21 days of standby time.
The above technical component of the device is enclosed in a rather compact case (for lovers of dry numbers: device dimensions - 116x50x12.9 mm, weight - 78.4 g). The traditional feature of Nokia phones has remained unchanged: the new model will delight users with its traditionally bright design and thoughtful ergonomics.

In Russia, Nokia 215 will be available in a version with 2 SIM-cards in a bright green, black or white case. Estimated retail price will be 2,590 ₽, the model is expected to be sold in the 1st quarter of 2015.

    Lumia 930/830 Gold

In contrast to the aforementioned model, last week we also showed flagship devices in spectacular new color combinations: Lumia 930 Gold and Lumia 830 Gold differ in a frame (in these models, the external edging of the case is not a decorative element, but part of the frame on which it is attached all technical stuffing) gold color. Polycarbonate covers of classic black and white colors were matched to the tone to the frame.

It is planned that both models will appear at the beginning of the first quarter of 2015 in a number of countries in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, Africa, as well as in China and India. Their availability and cost in Russia will be known later.

As for the technical characteristics, the devices have not undergone any changes - from the original Lumia 930 devicesand Lumia 830 , which we talked about earlier, the new items differ only in the appearance.

Recall that the Lumia 930 features a quad-core 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics core, two gigabytes of LPDDR3 RAM and an internal 32 GB drive. Support for memory cards in this model is not provided. Vice-flagship Lumia 830 has on board a quad-core 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with an Adreno 305 graphics chip, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory expandable by microSD cards (up to an impressive 128 GB).
