"Who is walking the dog? .."

Recently, my friend, the father of the family, can’t agree with his son about walking a dog. The family is told that all members of the family take turns walking the dog. But when it comes to the little son, the boy fools his parents at the first opportunity, staying at home and saying that he walked the dog. There were several conversations between father and son, and the teenager generally explained his position: “I do not want to take responsibility for your decisions with your mother!” Parents are adamant about wanting to teach their son to take responsibility.

Of course, the parents here are caring teachers, and the boy is well done, defending his interests ... Well, the dog is simply a pity.

But the good news is that if the family does not solve the issue of dog walking by negotiations, then anyway there will soon be a solution. The Internet of things (IoT) will provide the family with a solution to their problem - the ability to walk the dog without human intervention , leaving only the optional monitoring function of the dog!

Here I would like to talk about the bright future and the no less interesting present, in which the benefits of IW are already commonplace, both in the consumer sector of use (as in the example above) and in the corporate-industrial segment of application. Anyway, the story is simple and accessible about the Internet of things.

From dogs to factories: the Internet of things is a source of explosive benefits

... and now - the drone walks the dog in 2017. I think that very few of us in the 90s expected such a rapid development of events. Then Dandy was still popular , radiotelephones were a novelty , but the revolution in the field of software development and the Internet had already begun. The then innovators, looking to the future, predicted greatness to the Internet. How cool and incredibly exciting it was to correspond through the electric network while in different cities! .. And now - the drone walks the dog in 2017.

Living in the post-Soviet 90s everyone was happy about the new, they were surprised that they were living in the era of breakthrough. It was very cool and exciting to exchange text messages while in different cities. Innovators have found many opportunities on the Internet. But no one suspected that breakthrough technologies would begin to change our lives as quickly as they are now. It is not always possible to believe your eyes when you look at the new opportunities that IW offers in our lives - the real world of the Internet of things.

And besides the obvious impact on our daily lives, IW is a source of explosive benefits for business as well. Moreover, the greatest economic effect lies precisely in the field of corporate and industrial Internet of things (IRP, IIoT). In 2013, McKinsey, an authoritative consulting company, included the Internet of things (Io) in the list of disruptive technologies, speaking about the enormous impact of the Internet of things technology on the economy. This vision was later revealed in terms of economic effect.

The essence of the Internet of things

But let's take a step back and recognize the very essence of technology.

The Internet of Things (IW) is a new opportunity to massively and inexpensively connect any physical object and control systems of these objects to the information network (for example, to the Internet). Previously, the focus of IT was on interaction through a network of PCs, servers and mobile phones, and the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT) offers to significantly expand this series to any object that has a “processor”, “network” and “sensor” built into it. This is not always useful, not always economically feasible, not always safe, but the range of useful applications is huge and continues to grow.

“The Internet of things is likely to fundamentally change our interaction with the outside world. The ability to electronically track and control physical objects allows you to implement data-based decision making in new activities - to optimize the operation of systems and processes, save time for people and enterprises, improve the quality of life. From monitoring equipment at the factory to tracking ship logistics at sea — sensors can help companies get much more from their physical assets — improve machine performance, extend their service life, and learn how machines can be improved. With wearable devices and portable monitors, the Internet of things can significantly improve the quality of health services, especially in the treatment of chronic diseases such as diabetes,McKinsey & Company report. This picture can only be supplemented a little with the fact that there is an Internet of things market and where exactly the capabilities of the Internet of things are applicable ...

Expected Benefits of Implementing IW

The Internet of things (IoT) as a whole promises literally every citizen and every company, regardless of industry, their own set of benefits and improvements, savings and growth, freeing up time and new opportunities. With this in mind, the key reason for the hype, hype and hype around the IW becomes absolutely clear - “steadily increasing marketing efforts are being made to promote their new strategies, products and services” (source: Techno-Stock Analytical community ).

What is the coming day preparing for me?

Returning from the market and business to our daily lives, I would like to get a definite answer: “Will the Internet of things directly change my life?” Research centers, analytical agencies and experts with concern for us have already given their assessments - “Yes - it will. Already cheating. ”Moreover, researchers unequivocally state that“ the Internet of things will become like electricity in people's lives - omnipresent and invisible ”, and that“ a number of fundamental human actions - such as teaching, thinking, working and spending time with other people - will be changed under the influence of the Internet of things ”(source: Analytical agency Pew Research Center ).

But concreteness and constructiveness are important to us - it is unacceptable to fall for biased statements. Therefore, we will land these statements for concrete changes in our lives.

Already now we can automate our life at home and free up time for really interesting and important things: caring for plants , childcare and healthy feeding of pets - all this is automated and with a remote control function. Many of the concerns that previously previously took time on a regular basis with us are delegated to robots and automatic machines.

After 5 yearsour clothes (shirts, blouses, shoes and shoes) and things worn on the body (watches, pendants, bracelets) will be equipped with many sensors to monitor body parameters, and will not only provide doctors with a statistical summary of your health, but also notify you of the risk health in chronic diseases, recommending taking measures or seeking the advice of a professional (see smart cardiac monitor , smart thermomonitor and panic button ).

After 10 years, driving schools will begin to lose customers ... Since with automatic driving, a person no longer needs to know traffic rules. Many people will refuse to own a car - it will be cheaper and more convenient to rent a car (car sharing). Motorists will be able to remotely monitor the condition of the car , and the car itself will be self-diagnosed on the basis of an analysis of data on the status of components and assemblies from sensors and offer repairs.

Thus, although “the future is not predetermined”, the expectations of experts are very realistic: most likely the Internet of things will radically change our lives. I support this forecast.

Only one key question remained unanswered: who will walk the dogs - us or drones? I believe that we will not lose such pleasure.
