Microsoft dismisses 7.8 thousand employees and writes off assets of Nokia

Microsoft had to write off assets acquired from Nokia in 2014. Then the deal amounted to $ 7.2 billion, but now the company writes off immediately $ 7.6 billion, reports TheVerge. The leadership of the Redmond corporation believes that the initial assessment of the prospects for the mobile business was not entirely correct, so now we have to change plans to reduce the mobile unit.

Write-off of $ 7.6 billion of tangible and intangible assets took place in the Phone Hardware division, which was created in 2014, after the acquisition of the corresponding Nokia business. After decommissioning, Microsoft plans to restructure, which will be spent on about $ 800 million.

In addition to write-offs of assets, it is planned to reduce 7.8 thousand jobs in the same segment of Phone Harware. In 2014, 32 thousand people from Nokia went to work at Microsoft; now it is planned to reduce more than 20% of ex-Nokia employees.

The restructuring of Phone Harware does not imply a complete discontinuation of mobile phones. The company plans to continue to release mobile devices that will complement the Windows ecosystem. Satya Nadella, head of Microsoft, said that in the near future the company will create a more efficient line of mobile devices.
