Roskomnadzor may add Google Play and iTunes to the register of banned sites for distributing extremist materials

Books by Saeed bin Ali bin Wahf al-Kahtani have been found on the App Store and Google Play app store sites . They are included in the list of extremist materials of the Ministry of Justice and are banned in Russia, therefore access to them by Russians should be closed.

We are talking about two books of the author mentioned above: “The fortress of a Muslim. From the words of the understanding of Allah, found in the Qur'an and the Sunnah and the Fortress of a Muslim. Appeals to Allah with prayers. Treatment with conspiracies found in the Qur'an and Sunnah. ”

April 20 the prosecutor's office of the Stavropol Territory went to court, demanding to recognize them disabled, transmit"News". The court granted the complaint to the prosecutor. Now links to copies of these books should be blocked for users of the Russian Internet. On May 20, the court decision officially entered into force.

In an interview with correspondent, spokesman for Roskomnadzor Vadim Ampelonsky explained that “a letter has been sent to iTunes so far without being entered into the registry”, and “Google Play is in the registry, but they still have the time required by law for deletion”. About the selected method of blocking specific resource pages is still unknown. Roskomnadzor is waiting for a reaction from iTunes and Google Play.

“The appearance of this kind of content in popular online app stores is wild. The administration of these stores needs to learn how to prevent the distribution of prohibited materials, ”said Ampelonsky.

Not all Internet service providers have the ability to block individual resource pages. There are about 30% of such providers. Therefore, if Roskomnadzor makes a final decision on blocking, they will have to completely block access to both Internet sites.

A similar incident occurred in April. The Prosecutor General’s Office appealed to Roskomnadzor with a request to block the link to download the application with Adolf Hitler’s book “My Fight” (Mein Kampf) on Google Play.

Roskomnadzor sent a letter to Google, explaining that this book is prohibited in Russia. The next day, the company closed access to this page for Russian users. However, later it became known that the book was simply transferred from a free resource to a paid section. By decision of Roskomnadzor, the new page was blacklisted, and Google received a notification.
