    WHAT IS AN INNOPOLIS UNIVERSITY?

    WHAT IS THE SOFTWARE ENGINEERING SOFTWARE ENGINEERING PROGRAM ??
    The program was developed taking into account the best world and Russian experience in training software developers and is aimed at meeting the needs of the Russian labor market in highly qualified specialists.

    The basic principle of the program is expressed by the formula “Learn by doing”. More than 40% of the training time is devoted to practice, which, in addition to projects included in each academic discipline, includes the implementation of the project for an external industrial customer by a team of students under the supervision of experienced mentors. Thus, during the training, students gain a versatile practical design experience, equivalent to 3-5 years of work in the company.

    Applicants can apply for the program with a high level of English and project experience. Training is conducted exclusively in English.

    Duration of study is 12 months (3 semesters). Graduates of the program are specialists in the field of software development management, gain competencies in the field of requirements management, architectural design, modeling, development methodology selection, analysis and quality management, development planning and control.

    WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANTS OF THE MSIT-SE MASTER PROGRAM IN 2015?
    High quality education determines high requirements for candidates:
    • The ability to program, use an imperative block-structured, or object-oriented language, for example: Java, C ++, Ada, C, C #, etc .;
    • Knowledge of English at Intermediate level and above (for training at the sites of foreign partner universities, a TOEFL or IELTS certificate is required; for training at Innopolis' own site, a certificate is not required - there will be serious testing);
    • Knowledge of the basic subjects of Computer Sciences / such as discrete mathematics, algorithms and data structures, etc .;
    • Deep knowledge of at least two of 4 disciplines: compilation techniques, comparative analysis of programming languages, operating systems, database systems;
    • Experience in team software development 1-2 years.

    Important selection criteria are also: the presence of desire and ability to work in a team, the willingness to perceive constructive criticism, and the skills of effective intercultural communication.

    WHERE WILL I LIVE DURING STUDY, AND THEN - DURING WORK AT INNOPOLIS UNIVERSITY?
    During their studies, program participants will live on the residential campuses of Innopolis University.

    WHAT ARE THE OBLIGATIONS OF THE PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS?
    In accordance with the terms of the program, participants who have received a training grant take on a number of obligations:
    • Successful completion of the program with a master's degree;
    • Employment in the city of Innopolis, or in a partner company of Innopolis University;

    Important selection criteria are also: the presence of desire and ability to work in a team, the willingness to perceive constructive criticism, and the skills of effective intercultural communication.

    HOW IS THE SELECTION OF CANDIDATES FOR TRAINING IN THE MASTER PROGRAM?
    Competitive selection takes place in several stages:
    • consideration of application documents by representatives of Innopolis University;
    • Interviews of successful candidates with representatives of the Admissions Committee of Innopolis University in Innopolis, including with industry representatives;
    • Making decisions on admission to studies;
    • Invitation to study for the program;
    • Student confirmation of acceptance of the proposal.

    HOW DO I KNOW ABOUT THE DECISION OF THE ADMISSION COMMISSION?
    Successful candidates will be notified of the decision of the Admissions Committee individually.

    THE LIST OF REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDATES SPECIFIC ITEMS THAT ARE NOT IN THE FORM OF THE APPLICATION ON YOUR SITE. WHY DO THESE DOCUMENTS NEED FOR?
    The documents specified in the file “Requirements for candidates” are necessary to continue participation in the competition. Representatives of Innopolis University study applications filled out on the website and keep in touch with applicants. Candidates send a full package of documents after the corresponding proposal received from representatives of Innopolis University.

    All documents must be in English or with translation. It is not necessary to notarize the translation of a diploma, its annex, academic certificate (or an extract from the grade book).

    WHAT IS THE TOEFL TEST REPRESENTED AND WHERE CAN I DELIVERY IT?
    TOEFL is a standardized test that identifies English proficiency as a foreign language. The test consists of four sections: reading, listening, speaking and writing. TOEFL can be handed over in one of the certified centers located in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny and many other cities of Russia. Record on TOEFL is carried out at least three days before the planned date of testing. The results are published on the personal page of the test 10-14 days after passing the test.

    The recommended test result for participation in the master's program is 100 points (TOEFL iBT), while in each section you must score at least 22 points.

    Candidates can also provide IELTS test results, in which case the minimum recommended result is 6.5 points.

    Testing must be completed no earlier than two years before the date of delivery.

    I HAVE IELTS CERTIFICATE. CAN I PROVIDE IT OR DO I NEED TO TAKE TOEFL TEST?
    Yes, you can provide an IELTS certificate if the results you receive meet the requirements for applicants. The recommended total score is 6.5 points, while the test results in each section should not be lower than 6.0 points, in the spoken section - 7.5-8.0 points.

    Testing must be completed no earlier than two years before the date of delivery.

    CAN I APPLY ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS TO THE APPLICATION: RESULTS OF THE USE, DIPLOMAS AND CERTIFICATES? WILL IT AFFECT THE DECISION OF THE ADMISSION COMMISSION?
    Yes, we recommend that you provide the results of the Unified State Exam (if any); as well as diplomas and certificates confirming your achievements related to your specialty (participation in olympiads, contests, conferences, etc., starting from high school), as well as any other achievements.

    I COMPLETE THE TRAINING BUT AT THE TIME OF APPLYING THE APPLICATION I DO NOT HAVE A DIPLOMA ABOUT EDUCATION. CAN I PARTICIPATE IN THE COMPETITION?
    Yes, you can participate. Instead of a diploma, provide a scan of the academic certificate (this is a document of the established sample), which is issued upon request in the dean's office of the faculty of your university.

    After graduation from the university, you need to make a copy of the diploma supplement, make a translation of it, and provide it to the selection committee.

    I HAVE NOT BEEN TRAINED IN IT SPECIALTY, BUT I HAVE PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE IN THE FIELD OF DEVELOPING THE SOFTWARE. CAN I PARTICIPATE IN THE COMPETITION?
    Yes, you can participate in the competitive selection if you have not studied in the IT profession, but have qualifications in the field of natural sciences and experience in the industry (software development).

    WHAT IS A MOTIVATIONAL LETTER? HOW DOES IT NEED TO LOOK?
    A motivation letter (Statement of Purpose - SOP) should show why you are a worthy candidate and why you are interested in the proposed program. Describe your dream job and explain how studying at a partner university will help you get it. A motivation letter should be in English.

    We ask you not to describe the general merits of the master's program.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU INCLUDE A RECOMMENDATION LETTER IN YOURSELF?
    According to the requirements, candidates must send three letters of recommendation - one from the employer and the school, the third - alternatively: from the employer or school.

    A letter of recommendation usually has the following structure.

    • How long and in what capacity have you known the applicant (student, employee, etc.)?
    • What is the difference between the applicant in professional and personal terms and how do you assess its potential?
    • Please rate the applicant by the following parameters, comparing him with other students / staff (0 - low level, 5 - excellent level)

    1. intellectual abilities;
    2. hard work;
    3. motivation to continue studies in a magistracy;
    4. emotional maturity.

    Additional information about the applicant, his strengths and achievements.

    The recommending person must provide their contact details.

    If possible, the letter is signed by the recommending person and certified with the seal of the organization.
