French portal Open Data (350 thousand databases)

France has joined the list of countries that declare the principle of transparency and publish government data under a free license.

The US, Canada and the United Kingdom have already launched state data portals, but France has managed to surpass all: the state portal Data.gouv.fr contains about 352,000 data sets in CSV and XLS formats: real estate, taxes, unemployment, quality of school education, traffic accident statistics, crime rates, ecology, epidemiology, election results and more. Data is collected from 90 government agencies and geo-referenced.

No need to say what value these files are for web developers. For example, in the United States, in a short time after the opening of such a portal, citizens developed about 250 applicationsand government agencies - about 1100 . Among the interesting ones are the national map of deaths in road accidents for 2001-2009 , statistics on late flights , comparison of cities for obesity , etc.

Information can also be used in reference, medical, educational, navigation and other applications.
