Toshiba invents hard drive for paranoid

Toshiba has announced a new technology with uncomplicated title Wipe , which allows the hard drives with hardware encryption to safely remove the information in such cases as shutting down the computer, the hard drive removal from the system unit (where you were before that!) Or return the leased computer.
By the way, the technology works not only with computers, but also with printers and copiers who like to keep documents on themselves.

The technology works, apparently, as follows:
All information is written to the encrypted disk (we are talking about hard drives with hardware encryption), and the key is stored in an area that can be quickly and securely wiped. It turns out 100500 times faster than wiping the entire disk.

Hurrah! Now you can store whatever you want, and when you remove the screw, the data will be permanently blackened at the time. And thermorectal cryptanalysis will not help, because the key is generated by the screw itself.

At one time, this technology would save a lot of people from the judicial bench;) And I think (if there are no special holes) what else will save.

Under the cut, a fun video in the subject from the original post.
