LG Display and iRiver create a joint venture for the production of electronic books
LG Display and iRiver set up a joint venture between L&I Electronic Technology to produce e-books. The functions of LG Display include the supply of electronic paper for "readers", which will develop and produce iRiver. The deal cost partners $ 5 million, of which 51% was provided by LG Display.
The first e-book produced at the iRiver factory in China will be released under the iRiver brand. Nothing is known about the release dates and technical specifications of the new product. It is only assumed that the device will be equipped with a monochrome screen. It is also known that by 2012 the partners intend to launch books with flexible color displays.
Recall that iRiver, a relative newcomer to the e-book market, introduced the Story device, an analogue of the Kindle book, to the public this year.
