Record penalty

Attempts to pinch peer-to-peer networks for the distribution of counterfeit products are made with enviable regularity. Small penalties on the creators of torrent networks have been repeatedly imposed, but usually it was a question of relatively small amounts - from $ 50 to $ 100 thousand. In all new cases, the accusation was based on the fact that the network owners themselves also uploaded pirated products for download. But it was not possible to attract the creators for distributing the entire video and musical compositions in general - after all, the torrents do not upload the files themselves (they are located on the computers of network participants), but only links to them. But it seems that the sweet times for file sharing are over. The American Cinema Association through the court knocked out neither more nor less $ 110 million from TorrentSpy.
The lawsuit was filed back in 2006, in two years the prosecutors managed to prove 3699 cases of copyright infringement. By the way, surprisingly, because in fact there were several times more violations. But the fact remains, the network stopped working, the site is closed, the owners (Uech Park and Justin Bunnel) declared themselves bankrupt and frantically think where to find $ 110 million, because otherwise they would face a rather lengthy prison sentence.
