Web 2.0 and the theory of the circus

“In this way, BitTorrent demonstrates to us the key principle of Web 2.0: the more people use the service, the automatically it gets better.”

Reading these words, I recalled an already defunct article on the "theory of the circus." The person who invented this “theory” meant by the word “circus” the Russian section of Wikipedia, but his idea turned out to be so contagious that the word “circus” firmly entered my vocabulary.

The theory says that with an increase in the number of users of an Internet project (for example, the Russian section of Wikipedia), they are less and less involved in achieving the goals of this project, more and more involved in personal and public showdowns among themselves.

The conclusion is simple: it’s not enough to come up with a Web 2.0 service, you still need to avoid the appearance of a circus in it beforehand.
