Domestic electronic library "CyberLeninka" goes global
Today it became known that the CyberLeninka open electronic library has signed an agreement with EBSCO. This organization is one of the largest providers of electronic services and databases in the information services market, writes Roskomsvoboda. EBSCO has over 200 scientific, technical and medical bases for various user groups. The database now has more than 30,000 books, magazines, newspapers, reference books and analytical reviews.
After signing the contract, all materials of Cyberleninka began to flow to the Discovery Service and A-to-Z databases. Currently, more than 85% of universities in the US alone have access to EBSCO databases. Over 80% of US academic libraries use EBSCO resources as their primary tool for finding scientific information. According to the Library Journal, the EBSCO database is recognized as the best (the results were obtained during a survey of US academic and public libraries).
As already reported at Geektimes , this electronic library has turned out to be more efficient and more popular among users than the National Electronic Library (NEB) developed by the Russian State Library. The CyberLeninki audience has ten times more users than the National Electronic Library. At the same time, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation has already spent about a billion rubles on the NEB.
The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation even supported the proposal of the Association of Scientists and Scientific Organizations to Promote the Increase of Openness of Scientific Knowledge “Open Science” when evaluating the performance of scientific organizations to take into account the views of documents of these organizations posted in Cyber Lenin.
