Yandex search share stopped falling
The search share of the domestic giant “Yandex” stopped its fall in December 2016, according to Vedomosti . The search from Yandex still dominates the Russian market: by the end of 2016, it accounted for 55.3% of the market. At the same time, the share of actively growing Google, which Yandex considers its main competitor, is 38.4%.
Money from the display of advertising in search results and the formation of the issuance of contextual advertising based on the data collected is the main revenue item of Yandex. Therefore, maintaining a market share is a vital issue for a Russian company.
At the same time, according to Vedomosti, the share of Yandex’s search results stabilized not because of FAS regulations, but due to the proliferation of Yandex Browser, the optimization of the issue algorithm and the development of mobile applications of the company.
Recall that in 2015, Yandex complained to the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Google, catching the latter in unfair competition and obstructing the distribution of applications from competitors and other search engines.
The essence of the Yandex claim was that by distributing the Android OS for free (currently occupies 88% of the mobile OS market in the Russian Federation), Google obliges smartphone manufacturers and vendors to pre-install their own software package and Google search by default. At the same time install software or search for other companies was prohibited.
As a result, FAS fined Google 438 million rubles and issued an order to create equal conditions for all market players.
It should be noted that Google has not yet complied with the requirements of the FAS. Representatives of the FAS and representatives of the technology giant declined to comment on this situation.
