The rescue operation of 25,000 manuals ended in complete success

Just the other day, Geektimes published news that “due to economic problems, the Manuals Plus bookstore in Maryland is forced to close. On Monday, August 17, they will throw out their entire collection of manuals. This is a huge collection that contains reference guides to a variety of techniques from the 30s of the last century. " Several enthusiasts learned about the problem, and decided to attract volunteers to save all this information.

A cry was given on social networks, and, to the surprise of the initiators, there were several dozen people who expressed a desire to help. In the morning, Jason Scott, the author of the idea of saving the manuals, was already in the store at 8 in the morning. He brought 400 boxes with him (they were presented by one of those who decided to help the project) for transporting materials. Volunteers came to the same store - about 20 people. The work has begun.

For about 12 hours, volunteers actively collected manuals. Then it turned out that those boxes that the guys brought with them were clearly not enough. It took additional boxes, 8 pallets. And in just 4 hours they were delivered!

In total, more than 1000 boxes were needed, into which manuals and instructions for the equipment, various devices produced in the 30s and later were loaded.

Volunteers helped not only with physical strength, but also with money. About $ 4,000 was raised.

Volunteers worked hard, and, most likely, the number 25,000 is unreliable, there can be much more manuals. During the loading process, it was impossible to determine if there were copies in the collection, and if so, how many.

In general, the manuals are saved, everything worked as needed. Now all this technical documentation has been transported to the place where the containers are rented, respectively, the literature was loaded into such a container. True, Jason can only pay $ 250 per month to rent a container until the end of the year, then you need to do something with books. But we can hope that they will help him with money, as they already helped in the case of buying boxes.
