YouTube plans to launch streaming services for TV content and videos

In accordance with the information of The Wall Street Journal that appeared last night, YouTube video hosting continues its expansion, planning to overtake such major players as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime Video, securing the right to broadcast television shows and movies.

Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu have licenses to broadcast many films and TV shows, but the lion's share of this content can be ranked as fairly old material, which can usually be found in many sources. At the same time, YouTube is going to focus on getting the latest content.

The popular video hosting has long and persistently been looking for ways to move away from the existing model, which is based on free broadcasting of videos, and the profit comes mainly from advertising. Switching to subscription models looks much more attractive to YouTube in terms of revenue. Most recently, the streaming service YouTube Music was launched, in which it is possible to turn off ads for $ 9.99 per month - this benefit is called YouTube Red.

This decision is not surprising in light of the fact that, according to the forecasts of WSJ analysts, the profit from services based on subscription will grow and overtake services that support advertising by 2020. Meanwhile, YouTube has announced that exclusive content will be available specifically for YouTube Red subscribers. In any case, these shows and films can be found on the channels of traditional cable television, DVD and in movie theaters.

Currently, YouTube is still determining the content and its volume. But one thing is clear - the hosting intends to get the rights to broadcast a huge collection of television programs and films of the coming 2016 and subsequent years.
